  1. Sign up for a slot by visiting the Shadow Now page

  2. You’ll receive a Google Classroom join link after you sign-up for a slot successfully

  3. Join the Google Classroom

  4. Watch the Welcome Video + complete pre-shadowing work on Google Classroom

5. Text ShaDO-MD when you get to your appointment

6. Shadow the physician you signed up for

7. Fill out attendance confirmation form + get the form signed by the physician

8. Upload the confirmation form to the Google Classroom

Eligibility

Opportunities are first come first serve

Signing up for shadowing hours

  • Must arrange their own transportation to get to shadowing

  • Must NOT be applying to medical school this cycle

  • Must be responsible & communicative

Some shadowing opportunities have additional requirements or restrictions. These will be clearly noted in the SignUpGenius listing before you sign up. Please refer to the FAQ section below for more information.

Follow cancellation policy to cancel slots.

Failure to comply with policy will bar then student from future ShaDO-MD opportunities.

    Physicians partnered with UMMC require a volunteer badge, please find info below.

    UMMC Volunteer Badge Info:

    Estimated time to acquire UMMC Volunteer Badge: 1-3 weeks

    Steps to obtain a UMMC Volunteer Badge:

    1. Visit the UMMC Volunteer Application Page

    2. Complete the online volunteer application form and upload the required forms to the application:

      a. Health Clearance Form and all immunization records 

            b. Background Investigation Form

            c. Note: You also need one teacher reference for the form

    *Please ensure that all of the required immunizations are completed within the required time period (ex. TB test should be completed within 90 days prior to start)

    **If you already have a volunteer badge, please call the volunteer office to check whether there is anything you need to do to update your records.

  • The physicians available for shadowing vary each application cycle based on availability and specialty.
